Metafire

"Gonna die. Gonna die. Help. Gonna...," and there was a pause. This time the nurse didn't bother to say anything. Then he looked up at one of the agents and said, "We're gonna die. It's Metafire. Don't you know? Don't you know?"

"Yes, yes, we know, Dr. Miller." The agent was genuinely touched by this man's efforts, and he wanted to help him.

Jill, then took a different approach. "What is Metafire, Dr. Miller?"

Then the agent kneeled down and also asked, "Yes, what is Metafire?"

Dr. Miller, without emotion now, flatly spoke, "It's the fire that burns the fire."

Then he said, "That's what it means. That's what that word means. We're gonna die."

"Who is Metafire, Dr. Miller?" Jill spoke, and the agent, looking into Dr. Miller's eyes spoke, "Who is Metafire, Dr. Miller?"

"People."

Now the agent didn't need prompting, "What people?"
