Steve responded as he had been instructed, "It's very simple. We want one of them in custody. If we can get two of them, that's better. If we can find the nest of them, it's even better. But we need at least one in custody. There is a concern that this group may have a deeper purpose. The NSP is worried. This may be more than just a criminal action." He paused. He was not going to say more.

The Chief found his way out, "That is, if it's a kidnapping at all. This girl might just show up. If she does show up, just say 'hi.'" This was about the limit of Steve's information. The Chief was not going to tell anybody this was an FBI concern or that Jack was a new FBI employee. It would be better if Randy knew nothing about any FBI relationship. It would certainly be safer for Randy, if the kidnappers were the terrorists.

"OK, do you want me to just go like this?" He was wearing a battered suit.

"Yea, that'll be fine."

"Right now?"

"Yes. Over here is the bug. It's also a functioning pen. Put it in your pocket. You can keep your gun on."
