Steve did not waste any time, "We have a possible kidnapping. It's a missing person, Erisa McCabe. There is some concern that, if her boyfriend returns to her house, that he may also be kidnapped. We want you to pretend to be the boyfriend."

Randy's gut clenched. Something was up but they were clearly not going to tell him the whole truth. He was single and unattached, unlike Steve. He lost his whole family in the Boston blast. He had done work like this before. It was not surprising that they were asking, but he really hated it. He just said, "I'm still listening."

"We want you to drive to Erisa's house and stay there for the next few days. The kidnappers may be extremely dangerous. You can wear a bug. You should be yourself, but don't answer any questions. If they ask if you are 'Jack Martin,' say yes. We will arrest them immediately." Steve had actually not yet decided whether he would arrest them and was just trying out the idea.

"It sounds OK to me. I'll do it." Randy's gut was still clenched, but he was used to this kind of thing. He started to analyse the situation. "But what about this Erisa woman? If you arrest the kidnappers, what happens to her?"

"She works for the NSP. We are going to show no tolerance. If they kill her, so be it. If we can get a message across, it will be to release her because there will be no negotiation."
