Metafire

True to his promise, Frank didn't hear a sound except the clink of the positive latch on Scooter's dagger-like gripper. "That was good Scooter. Don't worry, you are right, and we would rather you have the money than the government."

"OK, now Scooter. We want to go to constant velocity and trajectory as planned. My people are standing by. We expect you to take ten minutes to take us to fifty miles an hour relative speed. It should take no more than six hours travel time to New Vladisvostok." Frank was making sure that Scooter knew his expectations.

"I know I agreed to that, but I could get you there in three hours, if you want. You would hardly know the difference!"

"No, Scooter."

"OK. It's your money!"

During this time, the Metafire people were making sure that the colony was prepared for the accelerations and decelerations, especially the 'accidental' ones to which Scooter was prone. They figured that at fifty miles an hour relative speed, a Scooter accident was not likely to do much damage. It was worth the extra twenty thousand dollars, or so, of tug time.
