"Yes," O'Leary held his hands up and showed a helpless face.
"Is that all? I would advise my client not to answer any more questions right now."
"Yes." Ferguson was satisfied. Then Jack leaned over to him and whispered something. Ferguson changed his mind, "No, one more question."
"I may advise my client not to answer it."
"Fine. Dr. O'Leary, we are confused as to how Metafire could create copies of the Internet in whole cities the day before they got nuked. Can you tell us how you could do this?"
"No. That's a trade secret. That's our business, and why you buy our software. By the way, our software source is encrypted on the disks you copied. We are not prepared to disclose our software methods."
"OK, Dr. O'Leary, thank you." Ferguson hung up. Jack was livid.
"I really would have liked it better if we had made more headway here. We need to find Erisa. Wasn't there something you could do or ask or something that could get us closer?" He had several ideas about how to trick this guy but held back. Ferguson was his boss.
