The agent said, "I do not know the purpose."

"John Smith, are you there?"

"Yes."

"Can you state the purpose?"

"No, it is a criminal investigation, and it cannot be revealed."

"Is my client considered a witness or a suspect?"

"The investigation is highly preliminary. We are trying to determine whether there is an association of Metafire Systems, Inc., with certain criminal actions. There was reason to believe that their computer records might suggest some corporate involvement. We want only to ask a few questions."

The attorney looked at Dr. O'Leary and asked, "Richard, do you feel comfortable with this? You can just leave without answering any questions. There will be no problems with that."
