Then Randy, still bitter, spoke up, "Except the people that miss us, right?"

Jane looked to Beth. Beth spoke, "You are alive. If we did not respect your rights, you would probably not be alive right now. You were threatening our lives, our existence."

Randy had to talk, "You mean by trying to catch a kidnapper? You!" He pointed at her and started moving sideways in the weightlessness.

Beth didn't laugh at him as his finger started pointing at the wall next to her. She simply responded, "No, it was what we think Erisa was doing. She discovered a secret. The discovery could have destroyed all mankind. Of course, Jack, it could have been your discovery instead. We don't know, but we know it was you or her, Jack. Jack, are you Erisa's friend or are you a policeman?"

By now everybody but Sporkin was listening to the conversation. Sporkin was not listening. He was at his computer terminal, typing away.

Randy looked at Jane and said, "I'm Jack. Jack Martin."

"You're lying, I think." Jane was not sure, but she was sure, just looking at him, that he would lie if need be.
